Mentored Youth Trout Day

Late March/Early April (1 week before opening day of Trout Season)

Each spring, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission holds a “Mentored Youth” Trout day a week before the statewide opening day to Trout Season. On this day, youth ages 12 and under can fish with their mentors (an adult age 16 and up with a valid PA fishing license and mentored youth permit) on stocked trout waters across the Commonwealth. The early start makes for a great way to introduce young audiences to trout fishing while avoiding the hustle and bustle that opening day brings.

The section of Jacobs Creek just above its inflow to Bridgeport Dam and along White Bridge Rd. provides an ideal area to fish in our creek. This shaded reach remains cold throughout the year and is full of aquatic insects, allowing Brook and Rainbow Trout to survive and thrive. Each year before Mentored Youth Trout Day, JCWA organizes trout stocking in this location to ensure there are plenty of hungry fish for our youth to catch. On the day of the event, we also provide hot beverages, cookies, pizza, and door prizes for all those in attendance!

Rain, snow, or shine, JCWA’s Mentored Youth Trout Day is always a great time to get kids and adults out and enjoying the creek!
